Difference in editing workflows

I’ve recently decided to venture into Capture One Pro 7 and so far it has been an interesting bumpy ride. Being an Adobe and Lightroom user for many years I am naturally used to UX of their products which really has much well thought and delivered UI and workflow decisions. In the end, there are things Lightroom does better, others are really great in C1. I can’t  and I won’t really say that one is better than the other. In general, I tend to prefer how C1 does the RAW editing and how Lightroom does the DAM. I must also note that the Lightroom interface feels more streamlined and “modern”.

But to be back on the subject… While I’ve been working on selecting photos for my next blog post I’ve stumbled upon photos that I’ve edited in Lightroom but C1 didn’t render properly or render edits at all. So on a couple of these, I’ve tried to replicate the looks that I already got in Lightroom. It turned out to be a nice example of the difference in editing workflows between these two. I didn’t go into replicate it to the detail but overall feel of the image. Below you can see the images compared and settings used.

The main difference in the flows is that for the flatness Lightroom tends to use the curve while the same effect in C1 can be achieved with the level tools that I really like. It might be that the same curve shape can be done in C1 but I couldn’t do it.
