About this photo

That day snow surprised us in Belgrade, but I figured that it will be perfect for a photo-walk in the part of the city called Zemun. It turned out to be the perfect day for photography. During my walk I stumbled upon this fine specimen of a Trabant, as well as his owner who told me it was in the perfect, roadworthy, shape.

A little bit about the Trabant

Trabant was once very common throughout the “eastern block”, especially East Germany, where it was produced during the Cold War. The name Trabant was inspired by the Soviet Sputnik satellite and it means “Satellite” or “Companion”. What made it special, besides the looks and colours, is that its body was made of recycled plastics.

When I was a kid, it always used to draw my attention, but it slowly vanished from the street as it was slowly replaced with more modern cars.

How do you feel about this piece of German engineering?
